    My plants seem to be climbing upwards, do you do something special to keep them spreading instead of climbing?

    Mike,

    I did an experiment once in which I divided a Max. tenuifolia into two large clumps, repotting one into my standard bark/sphag mix and the other was put into semi-hydroponics. The S/H one, staying constantly moist, stayed quite compact, while the other became "rangey".

    My take: Use an open mix that can be watered heavily.

    Yes Mike, I did use a mix of moss and bark around 2 years ago but alot of it has probably decomposed or made its way out of the basket. It's just mostly plant in there now.
