Default I was recently in France and saw...

Just got back from the D-Day 75th Anniversary celebration and a river cruise from LeHavre to Paris. Along the way, we spent some time climbing up to Chateau Gallard in Les Andelys.

On the climb up from the Seine River valley, I ran across the following on the roadside:

    Platanthera chlorantha

    Hymantoglossum hircinum

Gymnadenia conopsea (tall spike on right)

The plant on the left was Anacamptis pyramidalis

Wow beautiful Ray! And what an awesome experience to be there on the 75th anniversary of D-Day. I watched the ceremony on TV. Quite moving!

We were actually at Omaha beach and the American cemetery on the 7th, missing the ceremonies and major crowds, but the weather on the 6th delayed the flying of the vintage and modern aircraft until we were there. We also had a WWII vet with us. He was 93 and had been in Patton's tank corps.

Back to orchids - this shows the habitat for all of the above - you can see all of the anacamptis:

D day. Freedom and peace were brought back to Europe. Thank you for sharing the outdoor orchids you have seen with us.
May I mention that I also have some outdoor orchids in my little garden. They are Cypripedium, Anacamptis (formerly Dactylorhiza), Epipactis, Spirantes and Bletila. I tried to buy a Himatoglossum this year, but they were sold out. All the outdoor orchids in my small garden mentioned before grow and flower well.
