Default My first flowers from my first earned spike

    Here she is!!!
Sievekingia sauvis - first her buds

The spike grows down and out of the humidity pot I have it in.

It has 6 flowers / buds. 2 buds aren't quite open yet, 4 are.

I'm so proud I have to post a few pics. I can't decide which is best...

This is the whole plant and 1/2 a cat.

It has a spicy scent and smells like a New England wildflower I can't place right now. It's quite strong when I am holding it.
I'm growing it on a shelf with all of my other orchids - no special care....

    It's lovely, Kirstie!

You should be rightfully proud - nice photos, too! I like the one with the sun behind the blooms best...that is right after the feline shot.

    Default wow

I wish I have choices like that.

Is the spike usually upright but in this plant it is bent downward because of the weight?

It started out as a rough looking growth - I could tell it wasn't a new bulb growth, but couldn't believe it was a spike. And no, it just aimed right downward. The flowers aren't huge - maybe and inch. The whole plant is quite light. The spike just wants to hang....

I liked that shot too McJulie. :c)

Way to go! Beautiful pics! I wish my freakin cats would let me bring in some of my orchids! For some reason they love to chew on leaves and spikes, but yet they wont touch their cat grass! Go figure

Ohh Aaron, rotten cat does want to bite them... for some reason he seems to leave all of the ones inside alone. I *think* it's if I'm paying attention to them, then he wants to bite on them.... odd, huh?? He's so jealous of my time, he even wants to hurt my flowers! He comes running and gets in my way when I say hi to my tortoises or hamsters and meows and meows..... I think it's the same with my flowers......

Absolutely lovely! You are right about the cat, she's jealous. Amazing, my cat is very possessive, yet she never bothers any of the 'chids. And she likes her cat grass only after it has died and dried out. Go figure!!??!

Very blooms--my favorite pic is the one with the sun behind it

My 5 year old grandson likes the pic with the kitty cat best. He also likes your pic of the turtle, but he would like it to get bigger with a click so he could see it better.

The inflorescence makes me think this plant wants to be mounted.

I'm not doing well with mounted plants and this one was my first spike since I've been growing in February.....
I'll see if I can find the larger version of the pic and post it in the misc. section for him. That baby went to turtle heaven. We have 2 larger ones, and 2 cute little tortoises :c)
Off to see if I can please the grandson. My son is 5 and quite like that.....
