    Default Aerides odorata var alba

    Actually, not really.

T’was foolhardy of me to purchase this at 6 AM…I’m not really sad about the faint pink-purple tint at the edges because the plant is a beauty, but I would have been happier if it were pure white.

    Nelson,

You're starting to make my compulsive-obsessiveness look amatuer!

    Thanks for that!

I think this is my favourite ever of all your Aerides...

how many varieties of these (odorata and quinquevulnera) do you have?

your putting my Paph philippinense collection to shame... I need to get me some more

This is not my last Aerides posting for this blooming season, lol....

I estimate I have about 6 dozen Aerides, some of them very small cuttings. As to how many varities in all, I honestly don't know. For example, the variety novum "Moonchild" was a surprise; I had acquired it with a number of other plants throught to be the flava variety.

Really a beauty....if I' m not wrong should be fragrant too can you tell us more about the scent?
Is the appelative odorata always telling the truth about the fragrance?

Of course this is one of the plants I would like to own but cannot find....so thank you for at least let me admire it and ...make me want it even more

Aerides leeana has the least discernible fragrance, and then after that is lawrenciae. Odorata and quinquevulnera are very fragrant.

However, I am poor at describing fragrances. The aerides fragrance is musky and very heady, unlike the citrusy smell of Vanda lamellata for instance.

I am in the process of flasking several Aerides quinquevulnera, and shall commence with pollinating the odoratas that you see.

Maybe in 2 to 3 years time, I can supply all of you.
