    Default Masdevallia Measuriana

I picked up this little cutie at the Victoria Island Orchid Society Show last March. The label had Measuriana in small letters so I assumed it was a species. Mind you, I could find no info on it. Turns out, _______________ sells it and specifies the parentage. So here it is. It has the palest hint of lavender.

Very nice Todd! The sculptural elegance of masdies always fascinates me. Beautiful photo.

    Hi Todd,

What is its parentage? While they may be breeding it and selling it up there, the cross hasn't been registered with the RHS, which the AOS also registers with.

It's a goregeous color, though! And excellent photography!

Are you guys seeing snow in the Maritimes, yet?

    Wink

Julie, I also noticed it is not registered at the RHS. The parentage is listed as amabilis X tovarensis

    Aha! I've got it!

The name of the primary cross is spelled incorrectly - it's Masd. Measuresiana!

    Amabilis is a day-glow pink-magenta: http://www.orchidspecies.com/masamablis.htm

    And tovarensis is pure white:
    http://www.orchidspecies.com/mastovarensis.htm

I think the cross is every bit as beautiful as either parent! The cross was registered in 1890, so there's yet another example of sloppy tagging from growers confounding the orchid-loving public!
