Default Bulbophyllum lasiochilum from Chatuchak Market Bangkok

Here is where colour variation in a species is illustrated well.

I found the first three plants in the market at Chatuchak, in Bangkok. I did not know what they were, not even that they were the same species. The colors were very fascinating so I clicked away, amidst the dust, exhaust fumes, and clutter of the small stall with the vendor who barely understood English. It was so hot and humid and I was sweaty, with my allergic rhinitis starting to get the better of my nasal system. No tripod and the breezes were constant. I set the plants on top of the flasks filled with barely identified orchids, hence the glare.

Too bad I did not heed advice to get an import permit from the DENR, so all I got to take home were Ayutthaya-period style brassware that I hand carried, and that weighed like huge boulders.

The last photo is from a plant in the King’s Garden, also in Bangkok.

Kinda scarey looking in a pretty sort of way. They look like they could fly away, especially the first one.

The typhoon didn't affect Manila much. There is another typhoon coming, but probably will not affect Manila as well. More rains are welcome for Manila. The metropolis' main watershed has not produced enough reserve water in Angat dam, just north of here.

I'm quite surprised that 4 is also a lasciochilum, Wecan ... that's quite a big difference in form from 1. I really like 2!

It has been suggested by Jim Cootes that this is a hybrid between B. lasiochilum and Mastigion putidum.
