    I think that the contrasting foliage and dark background is actually very effective, and shows off those fantastic flowers wonderfully.

    Unfortunately, the plant does not take nicely to the heat of Manila and has to be in the foothills to bloom well.

    Nope, I just went back to have another look - there is definitely an eye. And I think it has some sort of crown too.
