The first pic reminds me of a banana tree.

    Is it pleasantly fragrant, nelson?

I pulled out my Nelson's Companion Guide for this one (Jim Cootes' Orchids of the Philippines), and it says the leaves grow to two feet, which they looked. But it also says the inflorescence elongates after pollination to ensure wider dispersal of the seed. What's that about? I don't quite see what that suggests.

Maybe when pollination has taken place, the spike grows a bit longer? Because this is a ground orchid and as you can see the blooms are not too far from the ground, an increase in height would definitely increase dispersal of viable seed when the pod bursts.
