Default Encyclia mariae

This is a small species from Mexico. It is 6 inches tall and produces 2 1/2 inch flowers with delicate fragrance. It grows in bright location and I keep it as moist as I can when it's actively growing, otherwise gets watered 3-4 times per week. My growing room has intermediate to warm temperature range. It is a slow grower for me. I've had it for about 5 years. It usually grows on every new growth.

I fussed a lot with the light and background to get the details of its delicate flower. I hope you like it.

My kitty was desperately competing for the camera trying to show off her whiskers, so you get to see her too.

Very nice! I agree with Ron -- the 2nd pic is excellant!

How long do the blooms generally last?

Thank you. I am getting into experimenting with my camera, so it's good to hear you guys like the pictures.

If I remember correctly the flowers last about 3 weeks.

One of my most favorite encyclia species!!! Beautiful!!!

However, I heard that this one and its sister species, Encyclia citrina have been grouped into a different genus, Euchile.

Cheers. Hoa.

Hoa, thanks for the info. Good to keep up with all the name changes.

BTW, I have the up-side-down Enc. (Euchile) citrina too. It is a really interesting and pretty plant. I think all the Encyclias are good looking plants. I also have alata and cordigera. Enc. randii is on my wish list.

OK, now it's starting to sound like an obsession.
