    Default Scaphosepalum swertiifolium #2 Purple

Here is the purple variety - The plant blasted 2/6 spikes and all its blooms after shipping, but I finally have one back. If I can get it happy, it will just keep adding new indeterminant spikes I hope, and should be in bloom most all of the time then. I'll get some better pics with the good camera once it opens all the way.

I love scaphs! They look to me like moustached mouths rarin' to bite.

Had swertifolium years back. Did well for me in a terr but then I had to change things around. It expressed it's disapproval by dying. Have 2 scaphs now [picked them up last spring] but haven't been able to bloom them. On the plus side, they haven't died but blooms would be nice ...

Lovely, it looks as it is ready to fly away.

That is exactly it for me too Katie. When they get going well it looks like there are a bunch of strange purple bugs hovering around it on the delicate spikes, almost as though it is fishing.

Are you sure it is swertiifolium?? Here is a pic of my swertiifolium and the flower structure looks different. Unless mine has the wrong ID.

I think they both are, but am definately not sure. It is just what the tag said when I bought it.

It was just half opened in the pic but is starting to look much more like yours now. I'll post up a better shot when it is mature so we can compare better.

As I recall, Ron, thhere are 2 forms ... the purple form has the coloration of myc's. As far as form goes, yours is the shape mine had, however, myc's may simply not have opened up fully yet.

    Btw ... beautiful scaph, Ron!

Those are really cool. Is there a pic of the whole plant?
