Default My Greenhouse - Year 1 Report *LOTS of pics*

Hello Everyone,

It has been officially 1 year since I assembled the greenhouse and I would like to share its growth and evolution so far.
It is constantly evolving, as I learn more stuff and make adjustments as necessary.

Here's an external shot of the greenhouse.

Cymbidiums are outside again, since the weather is starting to warm up.

Left side of the interior

Right side of the interior

Exhaust fan, controlled by a thermostat. It is active again after a few months rest.

Mounted orchids - spider mites really did a number on the phals. I hope this mounted setup minimizes further infestation.

Oncidiums - the bottom section is mostly Sharry Baby "Sweet Fragrance", top section is a mix of Twinkles and Miltonidium divisions.

Oncidiums and Zygopetalums. One Zygo is trying to crawl out of the pot.

Assorted Cattleya seedlings in S/H (6 months since purchase)

Juvenile Laelia perrinii (front), two Cattleya backbulbs growing nicely (2 pots behind) and three 1-year old Epicattleya Nebo cuttings in the background.
The backbulbs all the way in the back are dead - pay no attention to those

More seedlings, cuttings and backbulbs. The leafy plant in the back is a Ki plant (Cordyline fruticosa) a souvenir from Honolulu. The flowery plant in front is a bulb I planted last november, but Madison took the tag and it is now a NOID.

Meet the Cattleya Alliance (well... at least part of it):

A shot of the Howearas - I like these orchids. They divide all by themselves.
When the new cluster of pseudobulbs are mature enough, the connecting rhizome disappears. Or maybe its just a lucky coincidence that the rhizome rotted where it did.
Some Encyclias are in the background.

Vandas - The one on the left is thriving, the two in the middle are "eh" and the one on the right is just a cluster of roots.

Cymbidiums, Epidendrums and a Psychopsis spike that never quits.

More mounted orchids - one dendrobium (Desertgal's) is in spike again.

Dendrobiums still in winter hybernation?

Poinsetta, and some pineapples - yes I grow pineapples. Whether I can harvest, thats another issue

Phals and Paphs inside my office:

This is a good sign, right?

This root has an identity crisis

Enjoy
~John

Nice, John --- though it looks like you still have a lot of empty space in that greenhouse. Better do something about that .......

Hmmm! I like the way you have some of the phals in slatted baskets hanging sideways. Think I'll 'steal' that idea and see how well it will work for me. Thanks for all the photos!

Very nice set up John. Is that shade cloth over glass?

We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors....but they all exist very nicely in the same box. ...Hmmm? .

I know

I am torn between ordering new plants (instant gratification) or wait a few months for the catts to grow new pseudobulbs. The older catts in the bottom row produce enough new pseudobulbs to double their size each season and I might divide them again this year.
They might give me enough ammunition to offer trades to local orchid vendors and collectors here.

However, there were these beautiful crimson red cattleyas I saw online the other day, and I am also trying to dabble a bit into vandas too

The shade material is called Aluminet and you order it to a specific size and the vendor cuts and borders it for you.
The glazing on the greenhouse is twin-wall polycarbonate for the roof, and molded acrylic sheets for the side walls.
