    Default Giovanna's Phalaenopsis Vacation Spot

This is the new and preferred resort for some of my phals. I realised that some were struggling for more light and humidity, so I decided to get them out on my south balcony where the temps fluctuate from 35C to 22C, constant high humidity from all my other plants, one huge pebble shelf, and high light but not at scorching level. These phals immediately liked their new enviroment (and when I say immediately...I mean new roots and leaves in less than 2 weeks) and now they're enjoying this mild greek summer.

You can also see my new bougainvillea, planted in March, grew twice as much and bloomed for the first time (so magenda it baffled my camera's sensor), my trained deco olive bushes, planted last year, doubled in size and this year bear olives (30 in number) and some spice plants (oregano, thymes etc)

Very nice collection. I also like the detailing of the balcony railing and flooring too.

That's a lovely looking balcony. There is one thing though..... it's sooo empty, it could fit plenty more orchids (and not just for vacationing purposes).

The wooden slatted squares and the white pebbles are a beautiful combo!
I think my phals need a small Greek vacations and maybe I could come along!

Thank you!! I'm taking your reviews into consideration...I'm thinking about adding some more orchids from September since I've finally found a growing technique that suits my local conditions.
BTW I haven't done anything special to the olive bushes. The olives just sort of...happened. I guess when plants grow in their natural habitat they don't need any tips and tricks.
The deco idea struck me in 2006 when I visited a newly opened design hotel in Frankfurt, Germany and tried to adjust the teak&pebble elements to my house. It appeals to most people so far! My cat appreciates it even more!

Can I join Laurent, LOL. Actually, would love to join you on one of your sailing trips...that would be heaven!

I tried curing olives but was not successful

The teak/pebble combo is stunning...with an oriental flair

I purchased some feta, anchovies and oil-cured olives yesterday with the thought of a Greek salad this weekend.

Very attractive Giovanna--a five star resort for your phals--no wonder they're so happy! Glad to hear you're having a mild summer in Greece; wasn't it last summer that you were having all the fires?

Yes, Lynda, that's true. Last year we had to endure extreme heat, from June to August it was 35-45C and it was impossible to work, drive or do anything. It may be hot in Greece, but it's not as hot as Egypt. Everything dried up and there were forest fires all over the country, including the ancient grounds of Olympia.
Well, what is mild in Greece maybe extreme for some of you: 30-34C is sort of normal for August.
Wait till I get my skipper licence in April! The seas will be mine! :>
