A couple of you have asked for this. I have posted this before but I have added 2 more pipes to it in order to find room for all my vandas. This is it...no more room for more pipes.

Please don't laugh at my hodge podge home made system, which I made myself. My kids really get a good laugh out of it but hey, it works for me.

You can see my green rain barrel which sits on the floor in front of the trays. I have 5 trays, with a 1" drain hose in each tray, which drain into the rain barrel. The rain barrel has a hose which runs into my shower stall.

On the far end I hung a 4 bulb 48" T5 unit so the terete vandas get a bit extra light. I understand they need more light than regular vandas. The light mover covers the remaining plants.

The grey plastic matts lying on the bottom of the trays are there so when I water, I can pull them up so I don't water everything in the room. I use a hose with a spray unit on the end.

My son calls me "the duck tape Grandma" because I have wide duck covering the space between the trays so it does not leak onto the floor. Isn't duck tape wonderful?

One of these days I will take a pic of the other side of the room where I grow my phrags.

Talk about Vanda heaven!! Nice job! If I had a basement I think I might try to copy that. I keep thinking about finding a nice heavey metal coat tree to use for my vandas. Someday when I get the screen room built I'll start looking for one so I can expand my vanda collection.
Thanks for showing off your cool set up...

Lovely setup Marilyn. I don't think it's hodge podge at all--but very well organized!

My Dad says either Duct Tape or WD-40 will fix everything

    Marilyn,

This is really fantastic! I mean, from where I am in the Philippines, we grow Vandas outside, under nets, under trees - wherever there is bright light above and high humidity coming from underneath. But what you have done here with your setup .... WOW!!!!

Just some questions though - don't you find it difficult to prevent the growth of molds or fungi with the humidity in your basement?
