    Default New Shadehouse under construction

Here are some pictures of the new shadehouse that I am building.
It is a 10'x20' carport kit with a 1 3/8" powder-coated steel frame and thick white canvas top.
The posts are anchored to the ground with spikes as well as tethers on the corners.

It is located south of the greenhouse, and also follows a north-south orientation for wind protection.
I plan on using this shadehouse as a permanent home for the cymbidiums and other high-light orchids that do not need protection from the cold winters.
Right now it also doubles as a nursery for newly divided garden plants.
I also plan on placing a small table and chairs so that I have a nice little reading area away from the house.

View from the west. Green shade cloth is installed to protect from the south-west sun during the afternoon.
I want to keep the sides as open as possible for maximum airflow, but I will add more shade cloth if necessary.

A photo with the greenhouse in the foreground.

A view from inside. It is still a work in progress.

    New residents settling in.

    Stay tuned for more updates.

Here are some updated pictures of the shadehouse.
I think it is almost done. I just need to clean up some last minute clutter and perhaps pour gravel or wood chips on the floor.

I set up an outdoor table inside the shadehouse.
We are already starting to enjoy this spot a lot. We have our coffee here and smell the orange blossoms from the adjacent orange grove. Pretty cool.

    View from the inside:

Closeup of the cymbidiums and blettilas.

Epidendrums and Epicattleyas in SH. They had a growth explosion once I took them outside. I guess the greenhouse was too stuffy for them.

Here's one of the "giant" epidendrums in my garden.
I can cut the plant down to the base, and the next year's growth will shoot up to over 5 feet.
Hummingbirds love to hover around these flowers, but I dont think they carry any nectar.

    Cymbidium area

More cymbidiums and a taro "pit".
