No poisonous snakes this far north, just the creepy ones. The Northern water snake is a nasty fellow. They have a painful bite loaded with infectious germs.

I have always said, the only good snake is a ---- snake.

I don't mind the Green grass snakes here or the tiny little Red-bellied snakes

Hey Harvey, My son lives in western Virginia and found his dog terrorizing a black snake. Being new to Virginia my son nearly had heart failure when he saw the over 5 foot snake. He killed it not knowing if it was a poisonous snake.

That snake would have totally creeped me out. (shiver)

Sorry Harvey, I did not go back far enough to see who wrote the post and downloaded the pic of the Black snake. I should have addressed my response to Betty.

That snake would have sent me running as fast as I could to pack my bags or get a gun to shoot the thing.

Just kidding. I used to pummel garter snakes but whenever I did I would have nightmares about snakes. It's a childhood fear of snakes. I am scared witless of them.

Yes I know it was horrible of me. Our last house was in the pines and there was tons of garters around. ICK

I don't kill them anymore. Both my kids refused to. They would put work gloves on and catch and release from the property. Nice kids aren't they.

I think I understood it well. My question was provoking.

In Germany you won´t see a snake. There are so few. I am glad when I am so happy to see one.

I am pleased to see a snake, also, Peter. We had two large ones around this Spring, and they took care of the gophers that were ruining the two acres around the house & gardens. I know that they keep down the rat/mice population, also. Rats & mice carry a LOT of nasty diseases...which we want no part of! I'll put up with the snakes any time...they do a lot of good around our ranch. As I've said before...when we DO CATCH a poisonous one, we deport it! Live and let live...Betty :-)
