Val and Decompost--those are some great looking growing areas. It is exciting to see where you grow--and also all of those gorgeous looking plants.

To all the earlier posts, well, I loved getting to see your growing spaces too. It makes me feel like I've been on a tour of all your orchid growing spaces--that's almost as good as actually getting to go see them all.

Thank you!
Yes, it's always open. If it's going to be very cold (frost), I bring the ones in spike inside & put the vandas in the work shed.

While I mostly have phalaenopsis and several paphiopedilum, I think I favor the dendrobiums. This is a south window shaded on the west.

The bay window in the bedroom directly above is shaded somewhat on the south and all west by the apple treetop (3000-4000fc). No plants at the moment. Resting spot for bloomless phal's?

In the west window, somewhat shaded by the neighbor's house does get some direct sun but no full or setting west sun

This time of year, the unshaded north window gets 5000fc first and last in the day but after the solstice takes its toll, usually 800-1200fc

At the office, unblocked east exposure

I credit this forum with the health of the collection Thanks!

We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors....but they all exist very nicely in the same box. ...Hmmm? .

Wow Joe! Looks like you have plenty of room to spread out around the house. My grow area is confined to the south bow window in the dining room and the flourescent light shelving in my basement (good for those that prefer it cool).

This porch was getting east sun filtered through a dense hackberry tree and was somewhat west of Houston, which is humid. This was the very beginning of my orchid adventure, and the seedlings are all on the upper shelves.

I now have my orchids on a court-yard facing window sill that gets west light filtered through a crepe myrtle and partially blocked by the other wing of my apartment building. I'm in a dryer part of Texas, too, so I don't think I will try any more outdoor placement.

Joe, your displays are marvelous and I am wondering how you do it with unventilated pots. Are you in a dry or humid area?

I like the lamp too, Joe. But what I really like is that sweet yellow phal!

Nice porch, DSM, looks just right for the rack with the 'chids. Hmmm. Seems like the railing needs some orchids and maybe a few hanging from the roof. Lots of space to use!

Welcome to the "Alien Hive".

Center-West Wall: The Cattleya Rack

North-West corner: The Oncidium Shelves

Center-East wall, lower: Mounts on large driftwoods

Center-East wall, middle: Juvenile cattleya baskets.

Center-East wall, upper: Smaller mounts.
The juvenile cattleyas in the previous picture are now hanging behind the mounts.

South-West corner: The vanda corner.
There are some encyclias in that area as well.

South-East corner

Along the eastern side.
Note the plastic soda bottles used as S/H pots

I dont have any recent photos of the cymbidium growing area (as usual lol). I keep forgetting to take pictures when I am in that area.

And by the time I post these pictures, these would have been outdated already. I am constantly rearranging stuff in the greenhouse.
