Cathy - thanks for the tip, I'll investigate this further but are you enabling my habit ... If that's the case I'll have to move to another house that actually has more than the 2 windows where I currently winter over my small collection.

So jealous, what a wonderful trip you had, did either of you get any Bulbos, I know Zozzi likes them. It's always inspiring to see a greenhouse full of blooms, sort of like a good pep talk, you go home renewed in the struggle to get them to bloom, bloom, bloom..

    Hi Cathy and Pat!

Thanks for the grand tour. What a fabulous resource you have there! Phillip and I are jealous, although, as I've said, I'd be happy to take you to our quirky orchid nursery if you ever get up this way. You might want to move on that offer soon, since I'm in the process of buying up all their heirloom specimen catts and there are only so many 20 year-old pots of neglected orchids in supply. I'm looking forward to exchanges over my new old Catts, and looking for lots of advice about my vanda lilacina, since it's my first vanda and y'all seem to have cornered the market on them!

    Always,

    Maura

PS It's raining in Atlanta today!!!! Hip, hip hooray!!!!! All my little 'chids are happily crowded on the balcony getting a fine mist of whatever quality rain we have over here.

Maura, Watch out! Pat will be wanting to take a trip to GA at the mention of heirloom Catts.

The owner does his on flasking. He also had many of his own plants awarded.

Carol, He had some beautiful B. dearei crosses in bloom. I almost bought one.

    Thanks Zain!

Phillip, This is what nurseries use to look like. They were always grand and chocked full of plants.

The man at our favorite little funky nursery doesn't take care of his old cats and it shows when they get home. I think they came with the nursery when he bought it a few years ago and they get water, humidity and light, but absolutely no re pottting. When you 'look under the "hood", they don't look quite like you might think a specimen plant would look like. Maura has spent countless hours removing all the old soil, to include milipedes, and various other insects, fungus, and scale to name a few of the pests that she has uncovered in these things. After days of work they are often left with no roots as they were all rotten. I want venture a guess at how many hours she spent working on the last one only to leave part of it in sphagnum moss hoping against hope that it will sprout some roots.

In all fairness, if they do live they will surely be heirlooms she can be proud of. The total lack of care they have received up until purchase is astounding, surely this is the last year the poor things could hang on. I am not going to post any photos of these work sink holes as they are her story and I am sure she can relate it better than I can. I'm just a casual outside observer. Keep your fingers crossed and should you pray, include a short one for these things as they need it. Thanks,

    Philip
