Looking great with the plants in, Cathy. Your vandas and cattelyas will really love this. Your Tutankhamen is already showing her appreciation!

You did a great job, looks like the plants are really enjoying it. What guage of chicken wire did you use for the top to hold that weight.?

I showed these wonderful orchid photos to my plants today Cathy. It was suppose to show them what their job is, which of course is to beautifully bloom. It did not have the desired effect though. Now they all want to move to Florida!! AL

It really isn't chicken wire. It is called hog wire and really meant to do fencing of livestock. If I could do this over I would have used cattle panels (which are really heavy duty). I'm not sure the gauge, Carol. But it is thick.

I saw your shadehouse on facebook. I would like to adapt the design for summering my plants outdoors in Northern New Jersey. Is there a cover on top of the hogwire, or was it just a cloudy day? Heavy plastic sheeting down the sides? Thanks so much for your help!

The hogwire is covered with a clear plastic year round. The sides are only covered during winter. I'm actually redoing all of this after the first of the year. I'm adding on to my existing lanai. Covering the roof of both the new addition and the old with polycarbonate clear panels the entire thing will be screened in. I can't deal with the frogs.
