Default My small collection and grow area

Hi folks! I've been following these forums for ages, but never registered. I decided to say hi today, and post a photo of my small grow area!

I live in Boston, and that can be a challenge sometimes, as far as the orchids go. I have two grow areas. One is in my bedroom, and consists of six shelves, with a humidifier nearby and grow lights. I didn't photograph that one, because nothing is blooming there. This one is in my living room. It's not a true terrarium, in that it's got gaps and stuff, but it's enough for a few extra degrees of heat and humidity. I keep my minis in it, as well as anything that is spiking or needs a little extra boost of humidity. The lamp is a grow light. Anything that happens to be blooming gets moved to the shelf here... you can see one of my vandas in bloom. It's the first time I've managed to get it bloom in a couple years, so hooray! Vandas are my favorite, but I do not have luck with them.

I don't have much space at all. We have a little 700 square foot apartment in the city! I do what I can!

I love it! I'm just getting into orchids, and thinking about how I can best use my space -- this is a great example for me. Thank you for sharing.

Here's the set of shelves in the bedroom. This is actually a picture from a year and a half ago, and now there's another shelf, and he's also built me another set like this in a different corner, because I just can't seem to stop acquiring orchids. It's not the prettiest thing, but it gets the job done with a small amount of space.

First - Welcome to OT, so glad you have joined our community. Second, congratulations for your dedication to growing orchids and and your ingenuity in utilizing the space you have. What a great grow area(s). In spite of the limitations, you have a beautiful blooming Ascocenda hanging over the terrarium.
