Good morning, everyone. It's an absolutely perfect Sunday morning here in Atlanta! It's about 70F outside, a light breeze, the sun is coming up beautifully rose and gold, and everything I look at is more lovely than usual - even our chaotic grow areas!
Here are a few shots I took a little earlier this morning. What you see takes up about half of our living space now. Most of the rest of the apartment is for getting things out of the way of the orchids.
The inside shots are from either side of our south-facing sliding-glass door, which opens out onto the not-yet-ready-for-prime-time deck. But the birds like it, and the chimes are pretty.
I also took a quick shot of my new "Wardian Case". I got it from a local chain nursery for relatively little expense and have it perched on what used to be the stand for my aquarium/micro-climate greenhouse (ICU for my paphs).
Hope you enjoy - I tidied it up a little - there's always potting, photography, fertilizing, books, etc, all over the place.

Lovely view from the deck. Looks like you are well and truly hooked. Have you started looking for a bigger apartment yet??
Your grow area looks quite nice !! And your Balcony/ sit out looks beautiful.
Very nice, Maura. That's a neutiful Wardian Case!
Thanks, Yew! And you can't even see our fish tanks with our 4 betta (Siamese Fighting Fish) fish
in the photos! Or my new bonsai starter tree!
Do you have plants mounted on suet cake holders???
Good eye! We have 2 small catts (that is, they're young) growing inside suet holders - wrapped in green moss and soaked once a week, misted every other day. One is a walkeriana var. alba; the other is a maxima. More of an experiment than anything else - it just occurred to me as we were deciding whether to mount them. And no - no larger apartment - yet. This one is so beautifully situated that it would be hard to find anything half as good. We're just slowly moving out the human-oriented stuff.![]()
The bonsai activities have taken a slight back seat since Phillip felt into the orchid pit, BUT it's bonsai season now and I'm joining THAT crew, just to add to the plant frenzy around here. I now have my own tools and a Grewiacaffra tree. Do you know it? It has lovely lavender buds on it - and I couldn't resist the name (my last name is Caffrey) - too punnish - sorry. I'll post photo of it elsewhere on the Forum. I think it has a lot of bonsai potential.
Maura, you still have area on the Balcony for the shelf to enlarge your collection hehe.one more thing the small seat infront of the tank make me think you have little kid at home.such lovely growth area.
