    Default gonzo orchiding and the trouble with doing crazy planting!

    so at the end of last summer after seeing a fellow members post about orchids in her landscape, i got the notion to empty out on of my biggest planter boxes and fill it wil more sun tolerant orchids... planted them up in loose tree fern fiber...
    here's the initial planting...

    only problem is that the tree fern fiber seems to be holding more moisture due to our extremely wet winter than i had expected... everything is still doing very well, some den canes are over 3 feet tall! and buds are forming on some of the vandaceous types... but i just didnt want to risk it so i bought some clay aggregate, carefully removed the plants (the ones without spikes forming), removed roughly half of the fern fiber and mixed in the clay balls and put things back in place... even though i know these retain water (almost as much as i do) i'm hoping they will increase the air spaces within the planter...

    I cannot wait to see your results! It looks like a mini forest...very pretty! If it all blooms at once it will be a sight and a half! Good luck....
