    Default CjCorner's Orchid Bar

A visitor observed the bar area on our back patio a couple years ago and declared I needed to call it the orchid bar and so that is what the back porch is now called in the summertime. I thought i'd post these since I was asked about my grow area.

The first view is looking west down the alley of plants. Everyone so far seems to love it...with the one exception being my husband. Poor man sweeps back there constantly, so I cannot take credit for the immaculate back porch generally. lol

I ordered a clothes hanging rack on rollers to hang vanda off of, but this year it has cattleya in baskets hanging there. It's multipurpose. (my husband says i need to be on that show with the "pickers")

Looking along the overhang towards the west, you can see I use palm fronds, lace sheers, etc to shade plants . I will also use about anything to hang plants from as well.

And this is the ugly side of the vanda section. I am slowly removing the shade stuff, however before the summer is over they will go back up. The sun can get super hot fast and I end up moving plants around as the sun changes it's angle through the summer.

This is the far end of the vanda section. I hung an Aranda where it could get a ton of sun recently and it's growing like crazy. Here's hoping it blooms again this year. Below the Aranda is a terete vanda i'm seeing nice growth on. It likes the full sun spot.

Looking east, standing next to the bamboo palm you can see a section of the vandas. I try to keep them to a minimum or it cuts the air movement to the cattleya section.

I have a special shelf and area for basket plants, mounted plants and a few in pots that like the increased water and humidity of the vanda area. It gets watered every 2-3days and generally fertilized when the vanda do. I have found that segmenting my growing areas this way helps me keep them all straight.

This isn't all of it...but it's what I could find pictures for. I hope you all enjoyed the jungle i've collected back there. I have been spending a ton of time repotting and i'm finally seeing the results. I'm going to invest in some more shredded pine bark mulch...everything i've potted in that stuff recently is growing roots like crazy. First time i've found a mulch that works for potting too.
