    Default My growing area.

Since land is very precious here in Hong Kong, the Estate management of the apartment where I live divided an area of about 60 sq meter into 24 pieces of growing area (each measured 2 meter by 1.5 meter). Growers have to do whatever they can imagine to increase the growing space. My growing area shows in the front row. I grow orchids using net and hangers in order to make more room to accommodate more plant. Under the orchids, I grow some vegetables.

Great use of space. One thing is boggling me. What if typhoon passes thru HongKong and we all know it has strong winds. What happens to your plant? What do you do to protect them?

Before the typhoon approaching, I put all the large pots on the ground and cover with plastic sheet to keep out the rain. Then bring all the smaller ones home for temporary shelter. The Observatory had just said we expect to have 4 to 7 typhoons this summer. Of course there must be some degree of damage.

I see you have your priorities straight - first the orchids, then the vegetables in what ever space is left over! Very cool use of space. Thanks for sharing with us!

Luke, I love the highrise farming! I live in HK too and I have a balcony for my plants - I end up moving everything indoors when there is a typhoon as the winds are very strong on the 18th floor facing the sea...
