    Ryan,
As of today I am now up to 183 orchids. This time of year I water my phals, vandas and all mounted orchids each day that takes me about an hour, the rest get water every 3 days and that takes me close to 2 hours, when I fertilize, which I do this time of year, each week, it takes me about the same amount of time. Unless I have to repot as an emergency I only repot in the spring, here in South Florida that is starting in March and by June I am usually finished but I don't repot each day as some are in bloom and I wait until they finish blooming. I was not into mounting orchids until last year when I had to repot over 100 orchids, I decided then that to save time and money on media I mounted all my phals, bulbophyllums and some of my dendrobiums, I still have 3 new bulbophyllums that are in baskets that I have to get a bigger board to mount on then what I currently have. This would be difficult if I was still working but being retired I have plenty of time to spend every day so my orchids keep me occupied. I also spend a little time each day keeping up with moving orchids around, cleaning and straightening things in both my sheds.

    Jack!

I look forward to being in your shoes, retired shoes at least. In 3 years, as long as I am able to get health insurance until I qualify for Medicare, I plan to be retired. I was going to say it is a kind of lifestyle when you have as many as you and I have. Even more so for those with more than us. They usually have a greenhouse or like you, can grow outside 24/7. My hand selected 35 just spent their first night outside overnight last night for the summer. I just have to make sure I don't fill in the empty space in the house with new.

    Harvey,
First off I am sure all of your orchids enjoyed there first night outdoors in months, find something to take the place of your empty spaces that don't need watering that can be stored.

Retirement has some drawbacks, too much time on your hands which leads to online shopping for more orchids when the orchid show season is over, some days you have to force yourself to get off your butt and there are those new problems, getting old is hell folks! It is still nice being retired, just keep busy and your brain working.

To those of you who are now in your orchid show season, have fun shopping!
    Jack

Hi Jack, your growing area looks great! I'm in South Florida too and most of my orchids are outside as well. What kind of board/wood are yours mounted on?

    Jack,
Love your growing area especially the wooden trellis that you hang the orchid pots from...I just wanted to know as to How do you hang the clay pots? Are they tied to the trellis?

    Monks-in Miami,
I use mostly a redwood board that I get from boxstore in the finishing wood section then cut them down for the sizes that I need, unfortunately some of my orchids need a bigger board so I buy the Wood Mounting Plaque's and then cover them with coconut fiber sheets.
    Thanks
    Jack

    Yucca,
Sorry I have not responded to your question until now but I did not get the email notification of your post until 4:39 AM this morning, your post was done at 11:59 AM so it took 12 hours before I got the notification notice, I have been noticing that recently don't know why?

The wood slates in grow area 1&2 are made of wood, the slates in grow area 5&6 are PVC. All I do is use a pot hook to hold them up, now I will say that the slates are well attached to the frame so I don't have a problem with the weight.

    Harvey,
Your earlier post in this section said 3 years so you don't have long.

I am going to post an update to grow area 5&6 soon under a new thread, there have been some changes...too much time on my hands in retirement I can't seem to stop!
    Thanks all
    Jack

I hope to be able to hold out 3 more years, or 2.75 now! But who's counting!
