    Default Grow Areas

Thought I would update the pictures of my grow areas... they seem to be expanding! You guys are a good/bad influence on me

Here is my garden window in the kitchen, Hoa called it a Jungle. There are between 40 and 50 'chids here, plus about half a dozen AVs. The area is deceptively large, the window is 66" wide, and from the sink to the window pane it is 44" deep.

This is the other indoor growing area, a light cart, plus a cart for phals, plus a recently added and already half full lighted area for paphs and psychopsis. (and AVs) These have about 120 - 150 orchids, 20 AVs

Here is my little high light level outdoor growing area (I have a shaded one where my 10 cymbidiums are, didn't photo it) About 20 plants here. (Including my speciosum and my kingianum which both have 3 new growths - and Hoa I am not watering them as much, I promise!) I created this by buying one of those plastic garage shelving units that is supposed to have 5 shelves - but I didn't stack the shelves, I used them as tables. Cost was about $40..

I also have a little area set aside for recently repotted plants to recover, I did not photo it as it is pretty ugly.... about a dozen plants there.

The kitchen window grow area is fantastic.
Unfortunately my kitchen window is tiny & very shaded so not much use for growing 'chids.

LOL - isn't it funny how obsessively creative we become just to sqeeze in one more plant? ...or twenty...

Shush! You aren't supposed to tell about the remodeling... it should give me about 60 to 80 more square feet to grow inside....

Hey, BD, we need a wine toast smiley - I don't actually drink beer....

I'm trying to figure out how to install misters in my living room...

    Diane,
I'm interested in how you water all those plants. It must take you a bit of time! Do the 50 orchids in your beautiful ( I'm most envious) kitchen window have to be placed in the sink at watering time? What about the ones on the light cart? Do you just let the trays flood?

    questions, questions, questions....

I actually hand water all the 'chids in the sink, taking them from their "perches", whether at the kitchen window or on the carts, placing in the sink and watering. It talkes about 3 hours to do all of them, including mixing up the fertilizer and water by 5 gallon container, then watering, then repeat..... The ones outside I water in place - still mixing up the fert/water first .

I do have humidity trays underneath them, but with as many plants as I have crammed on a tray they would overflow when I water. Besides, I don't like to have too much standing water in the trays.
