I feel for you Diane. Although I dont drink alcohol - perhaps we can drown the sorrow with some chai tea?
With me previous (older) home, I purchased an annual home warranty program that usually cost about $200 per year and it covers most home appliances (even if it was not bought from a specific company).
They would send a technician over to fix the problem and each trouble-occurence costs a max of $30.00. No need to pay for parts or anything else.
We had the opposite problem - the AC broke down twice in the summer which brought the indoor temps up to 100F.
This pays for itself big time specially for older homes where appliances tend to break down the most.
Once the manufacturer warranties expire on the appliances in our new house, I am planning on getting another home warranty program so that everything is covered just by one plan - instead of trying to keep track of all the warranty forms for each appliance.
BTW, you should be seeing some new growths on the C. Hawaiian Wedding Song by now. It might be cheering you up by August-September
