Default a "window" for my folks........

To digress for a moment ... My folks have a storage shed out in the backyard. A running joke at their house, particularly when my dad is being "ornery", is that if he doesn't watch his step he will be sleeping in the "other house". Well like many sheds, it has no windows. So I figured, I'd paint them one for an anniversary present.

So here it is. Do be forewarned -- it is definitely not any where near the caliber of craftsmanship that Lynda, Denise, or some of our other resident artists produce .... Overall, though I am satisfied with the result.

I started with a picture frame with a glass pane. In order to hopefully minimize wear and tear from the elements and such, I painted the backside of the glass. The hard part here, at least for me, is that I had to plan on painting first what I would normally have painted last. It also meant that any mistakes could not just be covered with another layer of paint. So here's what the backside looked like when it was almost finished.

Interestingly enough for me, the parts I was most worried about -- the cat and the "wood" sill were the parts I was most pleased with. Wasn't really happy with how the curtains-- mainly because the shadow areas in the folds didn't come out as I had wanted. But I think that perhaps if I had had more experience painting to begin with, not to mention if I had painted this in the normal order of things (shadows last and not first) I might have had more success. Ah well, here's the final product (though it was actually hard to get a really good picture -- kept getting too much glare/reflection from the glass......)

That's a very clever gift and you did a brilliant job!
The vase looks 3D, hyper realistic and I love the idea of the cat just peeking, better in my opinion than having done the entire cat. Very cool.

That is awesome!! I love the cat and the vase especially. The blue of the vase is so nice. Good work! What did your parents say? I bet they loved it! Painting on glass is a challenge for sure, but you did an excellent job.

    Cheers,
    BD

Cobalt blue is my favorite color. The blue on the vase looks almost like aluminum foil...so beautiful!

You are just as talented as our resident "artistes"

Well done, it is indeed very clever... and geepers, it's hard enough doing a painting the normal way, but backwards.. sheesh... definitely another of our talended artistic members.

Wow! I'm quite impressed, though it doesn't take much to impress me as far as asrt is concerned. If you can draw more than stick figures, then you can impress me. Even still, great job!!
