Need help for August: The Orchid Diet
OK.... I did not earn my blooming orchid for July because I broke down and had a milkshake, so I got a half-grown blue Vanda, but August is a new month and I need your encouragement!
I won't say how much weight I have to lose, but you will see as soon as I get my new video series uploaded (waiting to get proper PC cable for camera), it is a lot.
Is there anyone else there who has a bad habit to break? It does not have to be a "sweet tooth", maybe smoking or anything else... join me here and let's see each other through!
Rules: you can buy yourself an orchid with blooms if you make it through August without cheating. If you cheat just once or twice, and you honestly feel you overcame temptation on at least a few occasions, then you can get yourself a half-grown orchid.
If you don't have any bad habits to break, or you just don't want to give them up right now, please join this thread anyway and give everyone some encouragement! It means a lot!

Oh, I can't share the same view on this.
Life is too short. Pleasure is pleasure, I wouldn't want to tie it down with other rules. I do have things I wish it could be better, but... there is always tomorrow.

My doctor would probably encourage me to join you on this diet, although she has been pushing the excersize, excersize lecture the last few times I have been in for sugar level checks. The state of Iowa ran a program/contest for 100 days called Lighten Up Iowa. I actually joined up (or was entered by someone else), carefully kept track of all I ate and all I excersized, lost weight during the 100 days and saw my sugar levels shoot up at the same time. I told the doctor I am allergic to diet and excersize. She isn't buying into that theoty.

OK I'm in. I have 20lbs or so I can give away. And I definitely want more orchids, but the honor system...... is just too easy to cheat! Does the apple pie I had today count?????

i agree, and I am not concerned about the size so much as about the fact I am not having as much pleasure as I did a couple of dress-sizes ago. I am too young to start avoiding activities because I can't keep up!

I actually have the opposite approach.
I have set a limit on my fast foods consumption per month. If I can resist the urge to buy an orchid for that month, then I give myself an extra margin for the next month's fast food consumption. Think of my orchid and fast food budget drawing from the same funds. Spending on one will diminish whats left for the other.
Oftentimes, I end up with a pretty orchid and a smaller waistline.
And if I just came from an orchid show, I will be eating my backyard harvested sugarsnap peas and tomatoes for the whole month

*LOL* I love fresh sugarsnap peas!!!
I think I already sacrificed my bloomer for August because I needed sherbet for a sore throat, and the store did not have sherbet, so I bought one serving of Neapolitan ice cream instead of just getting some juice. But the sore throat was really bad and so I am inclined that if I can avoid any more booboos, I might get something...

When you get sick, you must take care of yourself so that you can feel better. Everything else has to wait. I think you should not count this serving of ice cream as a break of the rules. Maybe, and only if you feel guilty, you should only get your August orchid out of bloom.
cheers,
BD
PS I hope your sore throat is feeling better. It terrible to have a cold in the summer.

We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors....but they all exist very nicely in the same box. ...Hmmm? .

It is feeling better, TY, Bruce. I have not been sick since exactly this time last summer, so i am suspicious that some kind of allergy set it off. I'm still a little stuffy, but the throat is ok.
As for the orchids, well, we have the whole month ahead of us.....
Right now even as we speak I am working on uploads from that camera. I finally got it working, but the only computer that has the compatible connection is a Macintosh and I have to totally learn how to run it...yuck!
This is exactly the kind of frustration that sends me for the "comfort food"!!!
