    Not THAT kind of pot!

My sis gave me this pot for my bday. Personally, I think it's very cool.

But now the question is ... what to put in it? Should I go with my pseudo-bonsai ficus, my cycad (though I rather hate to disturb this one until it starts showing me some intention of growing), or just what?

Nice pot! I like picture #1 better because I think the palm is sitting a little too high in the pot. If it was lower, I can picture a lovely setup...

If potted in said pot, the cycad would actually be lower. I had just set its pot in the other pot to get a better idea ...........

I would keep it like that for a while until the cycad is ready for repot. They grow very slow so it will be it this beautiful pot for a while.

If you intend to Bonsai the ficus. Then I would go with the ficus. The ficus will grow much faster and properly pruned will be more aesthetic in the end. That is a great looking pot. What is it made from and does it have a drainage hole or will you have to keep a pot with a drainage hole inside of it?

Btw, this is what that same ficus looked like just a couple years ago

In my prior apt, the ambient lighting was very ... directional? I had the plant by a window and there was a large overhang on said window. So the ficus grew with more of a 'windswept' look without any action on my part. My present apt, on the other hand, has a cathedral ceiling with a half moon window over the SW facing sliding glass doors. The result -- much more light coming from above and all around. As you can see, it has had a major impact on the plant's growth. Still amazed at how quickly it lost the windswept look.

Oh and Ischel, don't know that I will be able to "prune it properly" -- I'd hate to 'butcher' it. The pot is resin, I think, and does have a drainage hole in the bottom.

I would go with the cycad in this pot. It will look amazing.

    Default A new pot candidate....

Still haven't made a decision. But here's yet another possible candidate:

I like that last one. The bark on the trunk of the tree, seems to mimic the texture of the pot somewhat.
