California Bound!!
I just booked a flight to LAX for July 18th. Heading out to the other coast to visit my oldest friend in the world.
Now I have to get organized. There's so much to do; not the least of which is to make arrangements for someone to take care of my orchids while I'm gone, or to have them placed in the trees outside (which might be a better idea at this point).
I don't know how long I'll be out there. Booked a one way flight, and will just book a return when Karen and I have had enough of each other. After 54 years of being friends, we're very comfortable around each other. I will get to visit my brother in Escondido while I'm out there too, and I think a trip to Balboa Park's botanical gardens just might be on the agenda.
It would be great to meet up with some of you Southern Californians while I'm there, so just drop me a PM if you'd like to do that, and we'll make some arrangements.

That sounds wonderful and fun! Be sure to wave as you fly over Arkansas. I have wanted to go and visit Diane (another member of our community) in California for ages since she came to Arkansas to see us. Have fun, Anne and be sure to take your computer so that you can let us know how your trip is going!!
Cheers,
BD

Bruce, not to worry. I always take my laptop wherever I go, and Karen lets me use her computer anytime I want to, so it's not an issue.
Who knows? Maybe I can get Karen hooked on orchids while I'm out there.

Hey Ron,
We probably will go to the San Diego Zoo. I've been there several times, but I actually prefer the Wild Animal Park of the two.
When you buy out there, how do you get the stuff home? Do you have the vendors ship them?

I usually buy smaller species and I just bring them on the plane as carry on...the vendor I use does ship. Sometimes he has things that are not listed in his catalog...so I call and ask him when I am looking for something. That is where I got the Epi that I posted yesterday and some of the Bulbos in my collection as well as many other species in my collection.

And where were all of you before I booked a plane ride? I really wanted to drive cross country, but couldn't find anyone who would go with me.
Anyhow, I'm not leaving for two weeks, so you'll be hearing plenty from me before I go.

Connie, I will take photos. What I'm not going to do this trip though, is to haul all that heavy camera equipment with me. I think my prosumer camera will do!!
Does anyone here have any ideas where the best place to stay is in San Deigo? I mean which section, such as Old Town, Mission Bay, etc.
