    Default more vacation photos

Jenny, the birds are juvenile Blue tailed Bee Eaters. Here are just a few more photos, I have simply too many to post here. I will have to set up a flickr page so people can see more.

Excellant shots, Steve! Were you able to actually get close to many of these critters you photoed or did you have to rely on "zooming"? Love the detail captured on the lizard!

Thanks all for the compliments. Paul, the little agamid lizard, house crow and elephant were shot with a small 18-55mm lens so I was very close. The scenic shots were also taken with this lens. The crow was easy, a gang of them came in every morning to try to steal our breakfasts!
Most everything else was shot with a 300mm canon prime lens. It's a bit big and heavy, but the detail it gets is superb and well worth the extra effort.

Interesting...the temples look Buddhist and here I was thinking that Sri Lankans were Hindis like their Indian counterparts.

Buddhism is the main religion of Sri Lanka; 70% of the population. Hinduism is the next largest with 15%. The remainder is split between christianity and muslims.
I, personally, don't follow any religion, but seeing the devotion and feeling the aura at these temples and ancient sites was a very humbling experience. Our tour guide for that trip was a devout Buddhist. The information he imparted certainly opened my eyes to a whole new culture.
