Hello everyone. I'm back! - If only for a short period of time.
I do apologise for my absence. My studies have basically taken up all my time to the point that my orchids have been suffering from malign neglect.
As for what has happened since I've last been on the forum, I've started my clinical years of medicine, which includes some 24hr calls, I've been stuck with needles twice, been on anti-retrovirals twice (and as a result, cannot remember a month of my life), I've lost weight, I've had to deal with a pychotic clinical partner whom I was afraid was going to plunge a knife into my chest while I slept, I delivered some babies (not as exciting as some of you might believe), I threw a puffadder into the air, I finally got my driver's licence, and then proceeded to have an accident three weeks later on the way to the local orchid show, helped to repair many a person's hand, I got to perform my first solo surgery, and I am now going to begin final year (Yay!)
As for the orchids, they haven't really done much. I lost all my oncidiums except my sharry baby and twinkle to basal rot, including my spectacular Bllra Marfitch 'Howard's dream' and the Odtna Lorraines 14th WOC. Flowering this year was dissappointing because of the warm winter we had, and I cannot honestly remember if I took photos to post. Sorry. Otherwise, the only additions to the collection were a few Cymbidium seedlings and 2 large Phals I picked up at the supermarket for a ridiculously cheap price.
In addition to all this, my parents went on a furniture shopping spree and in the process took up all my overwintering areas in the house. The end result is that I now have nowhere to protect the orchids inwinter, and I basically have 4 months to think of a solution. Fun fun fun.
So, that is my snot and trane story of my life. How has everyone been over here? I've missed all of you guys. Anyone done anything amazing? Who has a new greenhouse? Anybody get any awards?
And lastly, who is coming to sunny South Africa in June? Please make an excuse to.
Anyway, that's all from me for now. I'll try to be more consistent with my postings from now on.
Only one year to go before I earn a salary, and then it's orchids galore. He he he. It's great to be back.
Welcome back Praveer! Sounds like you have had an interesting time of it. Thanks for the update. Congratulations with your success in medicine. Hopefully that psychotic clinical partner will leave you alone and you will find a place to winter your orchids soon. I look forward to more updates from you. It is really great to see you back here.
