    Default The Spring Thread 2011

    I keep talking about Spring and someone asked for some piccys - so I took a couple of hours off from my chores, repotting etc;
    The tulips are outside my front door , to brighten up the day for any callers , and for me too when I set out. One of what I call "species" tulips, actually probably a primary hybrid, but I don't fuss about garden plants names the way I do about orchids.
    I did talk of the first flowering cherries , but they are ones seen on my local journeys ; I do have a couple of varieties, at least, but the buds are still pushing ; what I had in mind is a Prunus sp. in my garden - here is a pic.
    I walked three or four miles in a circle, enough to take me into and out of the forest- which around here means The New Forest ( created as a new forest by William the Conqueror who invaded England in 1066 ; I'm not sure when we shall start calling it the old forest...) whatever, I came across these wild daffoldils - quite a few.... a very good year for them - more flowers than I can remember from previous years. The long cold winter has some advantages it seems, in encouraging buds to develop slowly, perhaps ?

    How lovely - I love our nice warm winters, but I do miss the beauty of the spring flowers you get in colder climates! Thank you for sharing a breath of spring.

    Thanks for the pictures, Geoff. Beautiful tulips and love the daffodils in the woodland setting.

    Gorgeous shots Geoff. Here the daffodil leaves are just beginning to emerge. I saw a glimpse of one of my Downey Rattlesnake orchids and the leaves are nice and plump and covered in white veins. I have seen a flock of SandHill Cranes, a red fox and red winged blackbirds. I also noticed that the 2011 map for tracking the Ruby Throated Hummingbird shows that they are in to central Georgia and headed north. No buds on any trees nor bushes as of yet. The temperature is predicted to hit 60F. on St. Patrick's Day, the warmest it has been since last fall. We have done it friends, we have made it through another winter.
    Hey Branka - how is the snow melting there?

    These pictures get me so excited! I love spring, it is my favorite time of the year. Some have said that I am a purely solar powered and I would have to agree. Everything is so dormant (even me) and covered in snow here, through out the winter. In the spring everything just comes to life and the warm smiling sun is out, the birds are chirping, and babies are being born everywhere. My flowers are starting to push up now, I will post pictures when they finally arrive.

    Sigh... I must remember to not be jealous. I didn't have shovel any snow. This is the payback!

    Thanks for sharing your beauty.

    Default Ornamental pear tree

    The large pear tree we planted about 16 years ago is in bud, but not open. But, about 200 yards away and beside the pond, another one came up and is open. Love the pink in the white blooms
