Cathy; I like going to the beach...but getting in the ocean is over for me. I saw Jaws at 8yrs old...telling on my age now...and I even get antsy in pools. lol We went on vacation one year and I got to snorkel, I about killed myself a couple times panicking thinking every shadow was a shark. lmao Plus, now that we live here I am always hearing about people getting bit by something or stung by jellyfish or rays. If I hadn't been worried before, they finished that off with the evening news down here. Really though, if you show your kids when the sharks migrate up or down the coast and teach them safe habits they should be safe. I'm guessing being bit by a shark is somewhat even with the odds of getting hit by lightning. I'm still chicken though...

I love the ocean and have visited many. I don't think I would ever swim with sharks though. (Maybe in a cage, but my claustrophobia would probably not allow me to do that. lol.

    cheers,
    BD

I guess it's just good that no one is the same. I like swimming in the ocean, but just with innocent fish.

My friends and I go fishing quite often and though we don't target sharks we sometimes do hook them and most of them are black tip reef sharks in the 30 - 40 lb class. We always cut them off when we bring them near enough to see that they are sharks. Even though these are small their power is awesome. There has never been any reports of shark attacks in Malaysia but I wouldn't like to swim in the sea when they are around. Reef sharks are supposed to be harmless and do not attack humans. There are hammerheads and tiger sharks here too but I think they are not that common. I have only seen them less than half a dozen times in more than 40 years of fishing in our local waters. Indeed I have seen the gentle whalesharks many more times than the other two.

Yew, I would love to come fishing with you to see that. The black tips can be dangerous but probably not too much so at that size.
