I had the wonderful opportunity to experience this last night; Phillip and I ran into a friend (an acquaintance really - we'd only spoken to her twice before, but I guess it was for pretty long periods of time) who gave us both hugs and asked after us - why we hadn't been around much - Phillip's pneumonia, we explained. She then started to to talk about her 7 year-old son, who, since birth has had horrible ear problems, and just had another surgery. That segued into a long conversation, during which Phillip and I just listened while she poured out awful stories of her childhood, parents, and other family members. Her husband is a world champion pool player and travels all the time, so she is alone with 2 small children most of the time - so I assume she doesn't have a chance to talk to many people. Anyway, throughout her saga, she spoke of her faith and close relationship to her God, and how God had eased the burdens she carried, and watched over those she loved and kept them safe. All this time, her eyes sparkled and she hardly spoke like someone who felt sorry for themselves - on the contrary - she feels blessed. And so do Phillip and I, who needed a little shove in our life to get the truly important things in proper perspective. We gave her our complete attention, but she gave us far more, and WE feel blessed.

Maura, I can sum this is up in a very few words: You are a good person with a loving heart.

Awesome, Cathy! Black is my traditional gear for Valentine's Day - always without a trace of red to be seen! Thanks for reminding me!
