WOW! The first thing I would "DO" if this happened to one of my cats, is to check them over to make sure that no glass had gotten into their eyes or feet. ( when the lamp attacked them ) Then I would clean up the mess that the lamp had made, and then pet & sooth my cat after that horrible experience! Betty :-)

If I come back as a cat in another life, Betty, I want to be your kitty!

These are 3 am calls between true friends.
Or, in my former pre-Phillip life, a night of watching infomercials and buying makeup that would transform my life, followed by, if I was lucky, an episode of Mother Angelica. Oh - the relief of seeing the darkness outside begin to lighten, and people starting to move around to start their day as my nightly vigil was ending. These days, or nights, I don't have to use the telephone to talk to my truest friend, but he's often very groggy and confused when I wake him up - bless his heart!

Just a piece of rather useless trivia (), my grandmother and i have these rather deep discussions about all sorts of useless crap, as you do, and one day, the topic of 'the origin of words and what they mean' came up.....Turns out that the word 'Satan' doesnt depict an evil demon who wants to make everyone suffer, but it is actually a description of you, meaning a part of your personality. It is the desire to be bad, smash something up, get angry, be naughty by eating a chocolate bar while your on a zero carbs diet, etc etc. Very interesting from my POV.

And now to my ACTUAL point, i have a habit of waffling on.....the word DOG, actually comes from.....can you guess?

Nope, NOWHERE. It sort of just came into existance sometime around the early 1840's apparently. There was never any such word. The word used to describe a loyal, furry, four legged friend, was HOUND, derived from the german word, Hund, meaning Hound, or Dog. And apparently, it is a complete and total coincidence, that the word DOG, is actually GOD spelt backwards.

Like i said, just some useless trivial crap, but interesting none-the-less

To your point about 'satan' - I learned in one of my philosophy of religion classes back in college that satan actually means adversary; it wasn't the name of some hell-dwelling demon who wanted to torture you for eternity. More useless knowledge

    QUOTE]

I can't believe you know Rumi, Cathy! I have an entire volume of his love poetry and I love the quiet way he goes right to the essence of feeling. I only know a couple of other people who are familiar with his work. I am an avid devotee of poetry (former English major and writing teacher - how I got into the law is still a mystery to me). After Shakespeare, my all-time favorite, I have volumes of poetry by others I love - I'll have to start sharing a bit - maybe we should do a poetry thread??????
