And who woulda thunk... Bonnie Raitt.... she's like country right???
sacrelige!! you must listen to the album 'nick of time', tim!!

so tonight it just got better. i get a call from Tom, from the smithsonian, saying hes got a strange offer. (IT HAPPENED AGAIN!!!) Someone bailed on a concert at wolftrap, and he figured he'd see if i was interested in seeing, classical heads, get ready for it... Itzhak Perlman playing and conducting!!! Of COURSE my answer was an enthusiastic "YES!!!" What do you know? 2 nights in a row i have spectacular last minute luck, and see two of the greatest musicians alive. He performed and conducted a 'Happy Birthday, Mozart!' collection, most notable including Symphonies 40 and 41, and the overture to Marriage of Figaro. That man is absolutely astounding. When 41/Jupiter Symphony's molto allegro concluded with that amazing crescendo, you should have heard the place - everyone went wild! spectacular show. im on a huge natural music high STILL!!

and to make matters better, the concert was prefaced and followed with some really cool information on pleurothallids, with which i am rapidly becoming horribly obsessed. There must be a hurricane about to come through dc or something, cause im having WAY too much great luck lately. i can hardly contain my excitement!

    Default Best day ever!

So i trounced my overly arrogant friend at tennis yesterday morning, feeding him his own words. The day's off to a good start - then - i get off work early because we're rained out. Man, this day's going really well so far.

So i head down to parents house to see my mom who's sick - keep her company. Turns out she and my dad were supposed to go to a concert but obviously mom cant make it. So my dad says, 'well, Col - you want to go see Bonnie Raitt with me?' Hell yeah!!

Man it was amazing!! I got to sit about 12 feet from Bonnie Raitt, herself! Unfortunately, the wolf trap venue doenst allow photos from the covered area, flash or non, so i wasnt able to get photos She still has such a soulful and smooth voice, and is ever surprising on the slide guitar. She was warmed up by Keb Mo, who proved to be quite a talented and entertaining blues/soul performer.

I also came home to a tentative job offer. I wont go into detail until its set in stone - dont want to jinx myself, but im keeping my fingers crossed!

Just thought i would share a little of the exhuberance i got to experience from such a surprising and fulfilling day!
