Well, Julie arrived safely last night...er...should I say, this morning. I think it was 2am before we headed to bed.

Well, she's very cool. I admit I was skeptical, but Daffy gave her a big paws up! She curled up in her lap and purred and shared excess fur freely.

Julie's a wonderful house guest - everyone should have her to visit - she insisted on cleaning the kitchen, taking out the garbage, and refused to drink the expensive booze. Quite considerate!

    Default IDENTITY THEFT!!!!

How could she do it??? I trusted her - - and she gets up at some ungodly east coast hour and turns on the computer and posts as ME!!!!! (I'm gonna have to turn off that auto log-on feature)!!

Yesterday was a hysterical kind of day - as Sunday night I discovered that the airbed (yes a bed, not a futon) that I have had for a little over a year had sprung a leak. So I spent my entire lunch hour yesterday running to every store in the area looking for a replacement. I finally found one on my way home from work. When Julie called me between flights from Chicago I was unpacking the bed!

She arrived safely, a bit late... It was 11:30pm when we left the airport. So we got back to my place at about 12:30. She brought cat treats and toys to bribe Miss Daffy... (Daffy actually came up to Julie and let her pet her. A first for Daffy who is actually quite shy). Daffy really likes the catnip bubbles that Julie brought - - she decided she likes them about 4 am this morning when she woke me up rolling around and rubbing herself on the carpet where the bubbles had landed.

So Julie is off to her first school presentation here, and here's hoping it goes well and she brings my car back safely!

    More updates later!!

I was believing this one until the part about not drinking the good stuff. I knew then that there was foul play afoot !!!!
To Miss Daffy It is your big job to keep those girls in line.

PS: find out where Auntie McJ found the catnip bubbles.

    LOL....

I'm over 100 posts behind, and don't see catching up soon, but wanted to check in on the McJulie heads west saga. Sounds like so far you THREE (Daffy included!) are quite a team and could be getting in some good trouble!

    Keep us updated--must live vicariously!

Default My name is Julie Hahnke and I approve this Ad.

I'll stir up more trouble tomorrow, but for now just want to post a quick update. I'm mind-numbingly tired and have to be out the door at 6:15 tomorrow morning (it's 11:45 now and I only got 4 hrs sleep last night...)

Great catching up with Thumb last night and at dinner this evening! Catching up, as in, "hey, it's nice to meet you!" Daffy is cat, and life is on her terms of course, but she's definitely a shy cat. When I whisper her name, her ears twitch, but she ignores me. When I whisper, "resistance is futile," she tilts her head and stares right at me, daring me.

I spoke at 2 schools today in Thousand Oaks, Diane's town. I gave three presentations at the first (45 mins each) to about 50-60 kids in each talk. Then off to the second school, where I addressed all of the middle school in one presentation. They literally roared when I finished! Kids are really hungry for fantasy this summer, with a famous wizard's retirement, and the desire to believe they're listening to the next JK Rowling doesn't hurt! (Bagpipes don't hurt either, and they're a regular part of my presentation!)

Thumb and I had an early dinner and then I was off to Barnes & Noble for a book signing at 7 pm. I went in full Highland attire with bagpipes - you need all the props you have for these things! I piped in the store, which drew in people, and talked to them about my pipes, my book, whatever. It was supposed to be an hour, but people kept trickling in, so I stayed for two.

There were a lot of really young kids (they love pipes!), and two middle school kids who heard me speak today and made their parents bring them down, and several other curious adults who came by and ordered books. Two groups of high school students came over, and they were pretty neat. The bagpipes are different enough that the kids don't need to act cool. They can just be fascinated.

I explained why I was in town and showed them the poster for my book (made up with stuff I brought, and black poster board Thumb picked up for me...yeah, I still have to pay her for that!) The high school kids said their budget was limited, and they didn't want to order the book, but they wanted to save for it. I signed self-adhesive book plates for them. Whether or not they buy it, I don't care. They were psyched, and any positive influence is enough for me!

It was a great day! But a screw-up in the overnight shipping of the book I was to receive today (the first copy), after the publisher screwed up getting it to me last Fri, leaves this feeling Keystone Coppish. I WANT MY BOOK!!!

I've some logistics to sort out tomorrow, and might not get to post. It's a full day with probably 4 hours driving. It does keep me out of trouble . . . somewhat!
