I met Doc Spcok last night and he took me to a small gathering with 10 of his friends! We had a blast! He insisted I bring my "props" which included Diane's copy of the orchid book, my book showoff stuff, and of course, my bagpipes.
Towards the end of our Thai dinner, the wait staff came out with a cake singing Happy Birthday to guests at a nearby table, so I seized the moment and grabbed my pipes and rendered my own birthday salute. Yes...I suppose we'd had a bit to drink by that point...
My book arrived yesterday! But it arrived at Diane's and I'm now in Pasadena! She said she likes it very much. I think it's been taken into the office to show off. Oh well... She'll be meeting me at the Highland Games tomorrow, so I'll finally get to see it then!
I'm at the public library, and I only get 15 mins on this computer. I then have another one I can use for an hour at 11:10 (I can sit down for that one), and I might be able to mouch another 15 on this one. Sure beats the 60 cents/minute fee at the hotel!
More excitement with Doc Spock tonight!

Oh yeah...I forgot I played that too!
sounds like you are having a blast!
I just wanted to say that this forum is such a special place--it brings new friends together that otherwise wouldn't have met. Best of all, they share your love of orchids!
Have a safe trip home!
I so wish I could join you guys. It sounds like such fun. I am glad to hear Dr. Spock got to see our orchid book too! His photos in it are so beautiful! I guess we now need to hear the "Itsy Bitsy Spider" song story too! heheheheeee...
I agree, Clint! We all are really blessed by being part of this community!Originally Posted by Clintdawley

Julie - thanks for taking a bit of time (that it sounds like you can't really spare) to let us know how the book tour is going. I know that there was quite a serious side to this trip, it not being just an excuse for a booze up with Diane and a extended chin rub with Daffy.
Enjoy the remainder of your time and have a safe trip home when you go!
And no sleeping at the computer!
This is hilarious! You guys should write a book. Thanks for sharing all the goofy details! And poor Daffy - what an ordeal - good kitty.
Wow! It's been an exhausting week, but not without fun and wonderful companionship from Thumb ...or should I say, TigerWoman? After a long look from behind, I can only think of Thumb as a newly-annointed TigerWoman! and Doc Spock!
I spent Sat and today at the Highland Games in Pomona (sort of between Pasadena and LA). Hoa and I met a few friends of his for a fun Mexican dinner with awesome margaritas on Sat evening (after a stunning French dinner - with Japanese accents - on Fri night).
Then TigerWoman joined me today at the games and we joined Hoa for dinner with eight friends from his orchid society, and Sanjay, his business partner. We went to a wonderful Vietnamese restaurant where Hoa reigned supreme! Not only does he love reigning supreme, he's damned good at it - we ate the most incredible meal with fantastic service, and great company! Thank you again, dear Doc, for a Spocktacular evening!
Hoa's generosity and thoughtfulness are all the greater given the tempo of his business right now, and some of the challenges he's facing. He'll shrug off the particulars to spare a friend any concern, but he's dealing with a lot, and doesn't reflect any lack of joy in the company of his friends. I'm glad to be counted among them, Hoa! Good luck with all, and so many thanks for your time and thoughtfulness this week!
BTW, it's 12:50 am, and Daffy went to bed with TigerWoman a while ago, but Daf keeps using "coming in for a drink from her water bowl" as an excuse to check and make sure I'm not sleeping at the computer again!
TigerWoman? She's been great too, but Daf still pretends to love hiding under a mountain of tissue, while I know she's drawing schematics and projectile models for the delivery of fur onto a hanging wool object. The jury's still out on those two.
I should go to bed. I haven't seen the Daffurball in a while, and she may be testing her theories in my closet...
