HAPPY (getting more belated all the time) birthday Hoa!!!

And, just for perspective, I must say I was just in southern California helping a friend move to Santa Barbara from COLD Colorado...and the weather there is delightful compared to here.

Hope you are having a great birthday "season".

I had to pick that song by Mama Cass because it always reminds me of a Movie called "Beautiful Thing" which is the sweetest story... which is the film clip being shown... if you get a chance, watch the film... it really is sweet...

You know, I had no idea what that ATWT was.. I'll prolly try and see more of it to get a better understanding of the story line.

Talking of music and video's... I've come across an artist called Antony and the Johnsons singing a rather morbid song called "I Fell In Love with a Dead Boy" and someone has edited it to fit in with a clip from a British TV show called Torchwood -

but the music is so wonderful (notwithstanding the words to the song) that I can't help but keep watching and listening to it!

Took me long enough to get back to this thread. Checked out your music Hoa and oh my, the first piece brought tears to my eyes. Such beauty. Goes to show how complex we humans are, one never knows what is in the heart of another. I never would of thunk that you dug that classical stuff. See how wrong one can be.! Thanks for posting it. I've played it many times.

Not many takers for my youtube music video links huh?

Connie, thanks for the birthday wish! You are sweet.
Jenny (Mtequine) thanks so much! I am glad that you got a feel for California. And I will have a great birthday season, heheheheee ...

Clint, your picks are very good although other musics listed there have great potentials, all depending on who you are and where you are, you might have different preferences. That is one of the reasons I put them up.

Thanks, Ischel1, thanks. I know some of you will cry with these musics. Try the others as well.

Gee, Tim ... That music of Antony and the Johnsons is atrocious! Just kidding! I have to say that at first I cringed but as I listened through, now I have to say his voice is quite unique. I have heard other performers with similar voices, mainly cabaret torch singers, many happen to be cross-dressed performers in cabaret lounges, I don't say this to demean those singers or Antony and the Johnsons, and not like I don't enjoy those musics and their songs. Just look at movies like The Bird Cage or Torch Song Trilogy, or Harvey Fierstein's performances (like his turn in the musical Hairspray).
Regarding the character of Captain John Harkness in the music video, I first saw this character played by John Barrowman in the New Dr. Who series. When I saw the character flirting with both the Doctor and Rose, I thought oh no, what is that "thing"? But his character was so popular that now they give him his own series, Torchwood! That series is quite good although I like the new Dr Who series better. BTW, I have seen better music video using those particular footage of that episode, somebody showed it to me a while back but I don't have the link to it anymore.
I think the other music videos I provided are great, you will love them, I believe. I like musics that are fuller in term of musicality, you knows like singing in harmony like the the two songs by Boyzone, or singing with full orchestral/band support like the neo-classical Carmina Burana or the Nelly Furtado song.

Now let me provide Tim and you guys with the rationals of my offering ...
The theme of the offering musics is clearly "LOVE", besides what else that we really care? Love and dreams in various incarnations and stages ...

Since I was trained as a classical musician so I started out with one of my favorite neo-classical pieces, Carmina Burana. This cantata is about fate, chance, and luck; through fate, chance, luck, you find love and fortune. Do I really believe that? I am not going to tell! Very powerful and rousing, enough to bring a person to tears!!!
The next two pieces are my Rachmaninoff favorites, the 18th variation on a theme by Paganini - one of the most beautiful and romantic pieces of music ever written - the 18th variation structures through 3 stages, kind of like first the tender love, then the burning passion but ends with the regretful longings ...; and the first movement of his second piano concerto - passion and love of life, I especially love the opening of the piece, it is powerful yet gorgeous and so DIRECT! Kind of like walking straight to the ONE, looking into the eyes and declaring " I LOVE YOU". I end the section with a piece by Ravel (Water Game), a bit on the tangent course there, it's playful yet colorful, makes you feel like scenes between lovers chasing after each other through shallow water streams or letting waters drippings/gushing through while standing under waterfalls, perhaps? I play these pieces so just want to share them with you.

The next offering are a few of my favorite pop songs, like the Nelly Furtado song - love at the end with a tinge of sadness, if you just have gone through a break-up, you might even cry; it has been very popular here in the last several months, being played every where; or the Chris Isaak's song, love at the begining so you are fighting it, great use of the guitar, giving us a sense of the uncertainty, of the surreal feelings, the sinking feelings of when you realize you might be in love; and finally the hits of the Irish boyband - Boyzone, self-love (No Matter What) and finding/expressing love (Words), lovely lyrics, beautiful melodies coupled with dreamy voices/harmony, very soothing to the ears ...

In the next selection, since I know people of this forum belong to various persuasions, I include some music videos for those marching to a different drumbeat. I love musicals and theater arts so I include the music from the musicals, Bare - A Pop Opera (which was first performed here in LA) and Hairspray which I have seen on Broadway and in a recent movie incarnation with John Travolta as Edna Turnblad. The musics are set to the footage of the romance between Luke and Noah, played by two superb actors, Van Hansis and Jake Silbermann in the soap opera As The World Turns. This pairing as the first gay couple on daytime television here in the US has recently attracted lot of publicity and interest from the fans, old and new. Their romance while still being told, has been very sweet, tender and achingly loving. Their love story thus far has a feeling of being genuine despite the usual wacky soapy story-telling. Several of their scenes together brought legions of the fans, both gay and straight, into ecstasy and tears. Who would have thought a pair of gay lovebirds would bring romance and sexy back to the soap opera genre? And that is a direct quote from the mainstream press! Devoted fans create these music videos as tributes to them. The first video is set to the title song Bare of the musical "Bare - A Pop Opera" - first love with all the tentative steps. The second is set to the song I Can Hear the Bells of the musical "Hairspray" - love at first sight, all bubbly like a glass of chilled champagne. Very well done and great synchronization between the lyrics and the videos. The third video is set to the crooning music and crying voice of Enrique Iglesias - heroic love and the promise of devotion. After that, we have the music video set to footage of the film "Later Days" - in love and at peace expressed through the song and the lovely voice of the amazing Roberta Flack. Subsequently, the music of David Gray is set to the footage of the Argentine import "Plata Quemada - Burnt Money" - torturous love/love in crime of the pair Nene and Angel based on a real life story. Last of this selection, the ending montage of the British import "Beautiful Thing" - love against the odds, set to the vocal of Mama Cass and the music of the Mamas and the Papas - dreamy love!

The dreamy love allows me to change the subject a bit. Since I also like techno very much back during my party days and Japanese-style amine, two beautiful songs with accompanying electronic/techno musics are offered, The Dream Within by Lara Fabian and My Dream by DMT. Give these two a try, you guys will love them too, dreamy yet powerful! The musics could drown you in tears if you let them!

    Many cheers. Hoa.

Hoa, I did like your offerings! I have been in Dallas since Thursday night late for the TETA convention (acting and theatre design competitions). In my hotel room, I watched your offerings and got so caught up in youtube. lol. One click led to another, and so on ... you get the idea. Thanks for the background on these. I can now watch them with different eyes.

    Cheers,
    BD

    Thanks for the response.
How do you maintain the medium free of bacteria and fungus. I would like to have a preventive way of keeping this nasty stuff out of my orchids.
    Thanks.
    Lupita.
