    Default Not all are good.

Usually we see the nicer Paphs from growers collections in the forum...well.... here is a seedling just opened that falls way short of being a favourite OR good.
Mind your, I have flowered 4 or 5 other seedlings plants of the same cross & all are excellent.

Any chance of a photo of an "excellant" one for comparison?

It looks good to me too. However, I am happy with ANY flower, specially if it bloomed in my care.
In the case of paphs, I would be happy if they stayed alive long enough to bloom

Just guessing from experience and hearsay, these are PROBABLY reasons why judges would not like the flower:
    1. The picotee around the petals are uneven.
    2. The pouch's bottom twists slightly to the right.
    3. The light color on the bottom of the pouch again has uneven borders. It should either fade uniformly, have a distinct border or not exist at all.
    4. The tip of the dorsal sepal curls.
    5. The burgundy base color is not deep enough.

I dont really care much for those criteria (I dont even submit plants for judging - I am not that hardcore yet ). Although it is a big deal for someone trying to grow award quality plants.

Hmm--I can see some of the areas of "weakness" but it is still an attractive color! I would love to see some of the ones you consider good!

The cross is P. Fine Arts x Sparsholt. Whats wrong with it, where do I start... I suppose its better to show the difference between a good complex and a poor one. I still can't find the pics of its sister plants so I have to make do.
Above all, a good complex hybrid paph should be round, no reflexing of the dorsal, petals to be broad, flat and wih little furling or twisting. The ventral should fill in behind and below the pouch without reflexing. The flower should be slightly cupped to flat. Any gophering should be even.
