    Default Paph In-Charm Greenery

Well, our week long preview of spring has sprung. The cool weather and rain returns and the cold and snow are approaching our back doorstep but this offering in the GH was a pleasant sight.

Another spicy hybrid. Great bloom Howard.
Just hope my spicerianum seedling starts to grow faster, especially that I just found out that it needs two/three growths before it blooms.

There seems to be a small "naming problem". Maybe there are some smart Paph people out there that will weigh in on this. Apparently, Yerba Buena x Golden Days was registered in 2004 as In-Charm Greenery. Included are my pics of these paphs. To my eye they don't look the same....similar but "no deal". Your thoughts, please.

I have a paph in bloom now that looks exactly like the Yerba Buena x Golden Days. I will have to check the name tonight.

    Howard,

I'm no Paph expert, but there is a fairly simple reason for the difference. Your first photo is of Paph In-Charm Greenery; your second is Paph In-Charm Greenery crossed with Paph spicerianum. (And according to OrchidWiz, this cross has not--yet, at any rate--been named/registered.)

    Cheers,
    Rob

I think so, but just in case I wasn't clear, Paphiopedilum In-Charm Greenery is the mother (i.e. pod parent) of the un-named cross. That's why the cross is written as Paphiopedilum In-Charm Greenery X spicerianum. (Paphiopedilum spicerianum is the pollen parent of your plant.)

Similarly, Paph Yerba Buena is the pod parent of Paph In-Charm Greenery and Paph Golden Days is the pollen parent of Paph In-Charm Greenery.

    Cheers,

    Rob
