That is fantastic!!! Love the colour and the shape... surprisingly, there isn't any Paph fairrieanum in it's parentage as can be seen below...

As for Paph Sue Franz, it's a pretty complex maudiae-type hybridising.. ie there's quite a number of crosses to get to this plant. There are five species that make up the genealogy of the plant - Paph lawrenceanum 42.2%; Paph mastersianum 29.7%; Paph callosum 25%; Paph acmodontum 1.6%; and Paph barbatum 1.6%. Paph Sue Franz was registered in 2002 and one of it's clones "Willowdale" received an HCC in 2003 in Florida.

Paph Black Cherry registered in 1993 has received quite a few awards.. about 10 according to Orchidwiz. It's genealogy states species that make up the hybrid are:- Paph callosum 56.3%; Paph lawrenceanum 34.4%; Paph barbatum 6.3%; and paph mastersianum 3.1%

So given the above, one can postulate that to get that petal stance, Paph callosum var sublaeve would have had to have been used... however, I am still not altogether convinced there isn't a bit of fairrieanum in it... e.g. Paph (Sue Franz x Black Cherry) x fairrieanum.

Not withstanding... it is a pretty Awesome Paph and one I would love to have in my collection!

(p.s. sorry to be a niggler about names etc etc...)

oh I dont mind Tim....Thanks for the incite. What would we do without you?...lol.. It's amazing to see the amount of genetics that goes into one specimen. I wouldn't doubt there is some fairrieanum in it also. I'm so glad you could help me out with my first Paph. and what a catch it is.

Thanks everyone glad everyone could enjoy it as I do.
