Default Phrag kovachii x Cape Sunset

    aka...Phrag Suzanne Decker.

This one is special because Suzanne is a friend who we see often, Plus it is an easy bloomer. This bloom is a bit funky over the last blooming of this one.

I'll say it's a bit more than "funky", Ron! Still back in the 70's you old funky guy!!!!!!! Since I'm left over from the same era, just box it up and send it my way. I don't have any room at the inn but I'm sure I can find another Bulbophyllum to hang from the rafters to find a nice cozy spot next to my other Phrags! So Monday off to the post office, right....

It does have nice color. Was there a problem with water that caused the bloom to be a bit deformed? How large is that slipper bloom? With kovachii, I know it must be fairly large. I remember when I met you in NYC, Ron, the guy who made the cross also had in his display Phrag Haile Decker (I may of misspelled her name) and the bloom was HUGE.

    Cheers,
    BD

the petal span is about 5". I think temperature may have come into play with this bloom, we had a warm spell
Yes, it is spelled Haley Decker

The friend who made the cross was Glen Decker...Suzanne is his wife and Haley his daughter. It was Glen and I that traveled to Peru with and hopefully to Ecuador with in 2010.

Glen gave a talk about kovachii last week at my local OS meeting last week. He also participated in our sale over last weekend. The talk was quite interesting and entertaining. He has nice plants too .

Oh Ron, you've been bitten by the kovachii hybrid bug, have you? Well, I can see why with this bloom. Bruce, I've seen quite a few flowers on kovachii hybrids that are a trifle on the floppy side. I rather like them for that reason--they remind me of a puppy with floppy ears. (Yeah, I admit I'm weird! LOL) And if this one's typical, I'm sure the bloom is huge, just like Ron says.

    Cheers,
    Rob
