Default Paph. fairrieanum my favorite paphiopedilum orchid

When it comes to orchids round and flat is good, but there are exceptions. This is my very favorite Paph-Paph. fairrieanum. I love the three dimensional sculptural qualities of this species. I got this lovely lady as a souvenir on a trip to Hawaii for the holidays last year. She was in bloom then and was selected because of her vigor and has not disappointed-she has another growth about blooming size and three new growths coming. This flower is a little bigger than last year (her first blooming) and form is also a little better.

Very nice. I just got one of these and I love it. The red striping in the dorsal sepal is great. Yours looks well grown.

gotta love fairrieanum. I don't think round and flat is as important in species as it is in hybrids.

I'd go one step further and say even hybrids don't always need to be round & flat--at the rate the trends are going, we're gonna start having trouble telling paphs from phals or catts! I exaggerate a little, but...

At any rate, this is a great bloom and photo. I really like it!

    Cheers,
    Rob
