    Default Paph. noid double bloom

    Hi folks,

Just wanted to share this blooming of one of my paphs. It was unusual that it produced two buds, as I don't believe it is normally a multiple flowerer.

These maudiae types do produce two flowers when they are strong , although I know some rowers who pinch out the second bud, saying it never looks good ( which is OTT) and spoils the look of the plant. I'm not sure that I am brave enough for that.

That is interesting to hear, Dorsetman. Thanks for the info!

Mine is hardly more than a seedling really - this flowering is on its second growth - so I guess that means it is happy so far.

The two flowers did differ quite a bit. I didn't bother photographing the second one though - the dorsal was less colorful and less well formed and the sepals had fewer spots. The combination of flower and bud/half open flower made for some nice photo compositions though, I thought. Though I am still learning the ropes with my camera.

Interestingly, the first flowering of this plant (two years ago) produced a flower that also had fewer spots on the sepals. Below is the flowering two years ago. I wonder what effects that - anyone know?

Flower quality and indeed spots, can vary, year-by-year. Maybe its culture - few mortals can get it perfect every day - it doesn't even happen in the wild ! Maybe a bit too dry on one or two days changes spots ? Too bright ? Not bright enough ? Some combination ? Who knows !
