Another old complex paph. Cost me a bomb twenty five years ago... But I like it, and my old mum used to say money is made round so that it goes round. That was in the days when coins were worth something , and notes rather rare... a long time ago . An American hybrid I believ, although I have never looked it up.![]()
25yrs? Eloquent testimony to the longevity of orchid plants.
I wonder if the complex paphs are perhaps beginning to experience a resurgence of popularity. I saw a fair number of them at the last show I attended. If you haven't already checked out my pic from the Grand Rapids show, Geoff, you might like to do so. I included a few shots of ones I thought particularly nice.

Hi Guys!
What does it mean by complex Paph?
Hybrids bred through maybe a dozen generations, and perhaps containing the genes of as many as a dozen different species ; so far removed from the originals as to be a different shape, different size, different colour.... And in the case of paphs, there are special words used for different kinds of hybrids, among the specialists - "primary" = a cross of two species, "novelty" a cross between one or more of the newly discovered "Chinese" paph species, sometimes crossed with an old hybrid, "Complex" as explained, and so on.
Hope this helps ; I'm afraid that after many years in the orchid world we come to speak our own jargon and don't realise others do not understand it.
I had forgotten that mericloing Paphs was not possible, I assumed since I got it this cheap it must be because of mericloning.
It's easy enough to find, Geoff -- it's under the orchid show section of the forum. But since I'm typing this anyway, linking it is no problem either
