Talking Phragmipedium Eric Young (longifolium x besseae) at RVO

The only phrag orchid I have in bloom at the moment. This guy sure has a pretty color. It is a cross between Phrag longifolium 'Waunakee' x Phrag besseae 'Cow Hollow II' FCC/AOS. Seems like it turned out so much lighter pink than normal, but I like it. We have a couple of these, but this particular plant seems to bloom more often than the other.

I like it! Such a pretty color. Is there any fragrance to this one? I'm sure my mother would appreciate one like this.

Pretty anyway - I think my mother will like it, so I'll have to look around for one. Her birthday is coming up, so thanks for the great gift idea!

Very Nice color! You do good work! Are these harder to grow than Phals or dendrobiums? I really want to try something different!

With the light requirements of Cattleyas but the water requirements of their ladyslipper cousins, Phragmipediums are not for the novice grower. Do not let the roots dry between waterings. These are warm-growing terrestrials but still require good air movement. I would try growing a couple of strap leaf paphs first and then get a phrag. Since you live in Arkansas, you probably have the same type of heat and humidity issues we do, though we grow in a greenhouse and not on a windowsill. Good luck.

    Cheers,
    BD

Love it. My one and only bloom size Phrag is in spike. I can hardly wait for it to bloom. Love the color of yours.
