    Default NOID Paphiopedilum

I got this paph together with another NOID last year. All the vendor , who brought it in from Thailand could tell me was that both of them were niveum crosses. I hope someone can ID it for me. For comparison I have also photographed it together with my niveum and concolor.

Hi Yew Sung. I think your slipper orchid could be Paphiopedilum Angela (Paphiopedilum fairrieanum x Paphiopedilum niveum). There seems to be a lot of variety in this cross, but the color and patterning is very similar.

    Cheers,
    BD

Can't help with the id but it is gorgeous and if it blooms so nicely in Malaysia, I should probably give niveum crosses a try, the last group photo is like a cherry on the cake !

Yew, I have flowered a number of Paphs like this. Most or all have been niveum crosses. I would be looking at a cross of P. niveum with... barbatum/callosum type species or hybrid. Maybe Paph. Tautzianum.

Thanks Roy. Really appreciate your input. I was thinking along those lines, only wondering what happened to all the warts.

The niveum can block many of them out. It can also leave them but reduce their dominance & color intensity.
