    Default Paph Supardii x Sukhakulii

    Hello guys,

Haven't posted in a while, for some reason I went through a real dry spell as far as blooms. Now I have three in bloom and three more in spike!

Anyway, here is a Paph that I had for 3 years before it finally decided it was time to bloom again. (At least this hobby teaches you the virtues of patience)

I don't know if I've seen one of these before, is it an unusual cross? I wonder if it is a multifloral.

Beautiful slipper bloom! This one is named now, so you can update your orchid tag to read: Paph. Wössner Supsuk (Paph. supardii x Paph. sukhakulii)

    cheers,
    BD

    Beautiful.

The sukhakulli is much more dominat. I was hoping the curly petals from the supardii were passed onto.

Thanks for the kind words Noaki. Looking at both parents it is amazing how much more dominant the sukhakulii is. Maybe if this cross was crossed back on to the supardii. (I'm not sure if paph breed works this way or not)

A beautiful paph. As Naoki mentioned sukkhakulii seems to be dominant in this cross, so the muliflora trait night not show too?

Great Paphiopedilium Flower. Though I like the color and structure of the whole bloom, I am especially partial to all those spots. AL

Paph sukhakulii tends to be very dominate for the spots, but doesn't usually supress the multifloral habit more than any other species. This cross should have the potential of 2-3 flowers, but it isn't unusual for a young plant (and even after 3+ years this kind of hybrid may not be mature) to bloom below its potential for flower count and size.

All Paph supardii crosses could be considered unusual. There just aren't very many of them made, and only some crosses with other multiflorals have really been successful in terms of awards. Most of the others are probably reluctant bloomers like yours so may get discarded if they won't bloom or if the flower quality is disappointing.
